Identification Code for Physical Distribution
The code applied to consolidated packages, indicating the quantity of the products contained.
1 digit in the Standard version (14 digits), and 2 digits in the Extended version (16 digits). In the latter case, the first digit is a dummy digit (fixed at 0), used to keep the code length even.


Instore Marking
A barcode used only within a specific shop, chain, or distribution channel.
The numbers 20-29 are used as its flag.
Because of how it is used, it is often applied as NON-PLU, including price information.


International Article Numbering Association EAN
The administrative organization for the international common product code. Established in 1977 for the free-market economies of European countries, later joined by many countries from around the world. Reorganized in 1978.


Item code
The 5-digit product code following the maker code in a JAN code. The maker is free to assign the item code.
